Gary Fong Light Sphere II Clear

. I've seen way too many photographers using these things outdoors.

wouldn't a fong with the cap on be good for taking lowlight shots of a mingling crowd out doors?

with nothing to bounce off seems like a good choice to throw some soft light forward....

Well firstly, the 'Fong Dong' spreads the light all around, so when outdoors, you would only be using say 20-30% of the light (depending on your lens's field of view). That's a lot of wasted light.

Secondly, if the light is just going directly from the Lightsphere to the subjects, what are you gaining by using it? The quality (softness) of light is determined by the size and proximity to the subject. The Lightsphere is only marginally bigger than a flash head, so the light would only be marginally softer...not good enough for me, considering that you would be wasting 70% of your light.

that fill is quote good
