Interesting - I guess one factor might be that we are used to the sight (in every day life as well as the media) of seeing women with lipstick on - which will create a more contrasty difference between their lips and their natual skin colour.

the lips are more defined in the higher contrasted picture, so you see it more, it seems that is the biggy
