Can't comment about the lens as I know nothing about it. Sorry!

What I will say is that I really like the first shot. I would probably clone out that bit of bird that made it into the right side of the picture.

Agreed! Still love 'em, though We have a lot of them on campus and I'm always trying to get some shots in of them.
