Ef'm. WGAF what other's think or say about you when you're out shooting? If it was me I'd have snatched that camera off the tripod, laughed at him and snapped a bunch of shots of him and his entourage and said something to the effect of "See you on youtube."

^^^^ that!

You call that "punishment" when a guy is so insecure he has to belittle you in front of the chicks? Has nothing to do with taking pics bro, check yourself you may lack self esteem too?

Oh, trust me, I am well aware that I lack self-esteem. That was never a question.

Ok well he wasn't punishing you. And no reason to lack self-esteem. Kewl screen name too BTW.

^^^^^^^^Diz-actly the right answer!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I know. I fume over this kind of stuff, too.

But "dewey"? What kind of insult is that?! I mean think about it, think about how idiotic it sound. The girls probably had no idea what he was even yelling about. Seriously man, with an insult like this you're fretting over a MAJOR nerd who has little chance with either the girls which he struggled to entertain. Don't worry about it.

Seriously dude.. Don't wear your heart on your sleeve. My grandfather would say "Consider the source!" In other words, who really cares what a 17 year old riding a bike yells. At 17 I had a job, a car (Ford Granada.. but heck, it was a car), and my own two bedroom apartment. If he yelled anything at me, I would tell him to "Pedal that tricycle a faster little boy or those girls might catch up and see your diaper!"

The problem is, and I mean this as nicely as possible, if you can't take a insult from a kid on a bike.. How are you going to take criticism from someone who thinks your photos are lacking in one way or another?

The best revenge is to go and have a great life.

BTW the answer for the girls is "Hey, come here and let me make you even more beautiful than you are."

TL;DR screw him

Seriously? Don't worry about that sh*t, man. Life is too short. You're gonna die from a heart attack by the age of 35 if you keep stressing over ridiculous stuff like retarded 17 year olds. :

This is actually very interesting! Self esteem is very important, it shapes you as a person. I assume you realise that you shouldn't take that guy seriously, but that's not the point. If one lack a bit of self confidence, such remarks will somehow wake some thought processes in you. "It probably looks stupid bending like this.", "I probably look like someone wanting to seem professional by using a tripod." etc etc. I'm just making stuff up here, ofc, but one could think like that. I've felt sort of stupid panning cars with my 50mm I'm standing quite close, and feel their heads turn on me. I live in a small place, and so they might remember me. But I try not to think like that. After 40 shots it feels natural. Some even wave their hands at me and make faces, hehe. Some don't realise, and I catch them smoking in the car, LOL.

Anyway, this boils down to basic psychology. It's all very interesting. Freud says that the mind is divided in three: ego, superego and id. Id is the primal instincts, such as lusts, hunger, thirst, anger. It wants to avoid pain, and get pleasure. Psychotic persons are id-dominated. Ego is the realistic part, or the rational part driven by reason. The Ego tries to satisfy the id forces in a realistic and long term beneficial way. Ego-dominated persons might be overly introverted people, with low self esteem. The superego can be called our conscience. The superego wants to act in a socially proper manner, and sort of balances the id and ego forces. If id and ego are two horses going in different directions, superego is the rider trying to control these two and make them move in the same direction.

This can be worked on. Rely more on your id forces. Your need to strive for perfection, your wish to be good at something and your wanting to accomplish whatever you wants. Arrogant people are often successful, both in careers and in romance. Donald Trump may be a little id directed, perhaps a little too much. You may be a little ego directed. Nothing wrong with that, I'm that too. However, it might bring us down in social situations.

What happens when you get knocked off your horse? You get right back on it!

If you're going to let others determine what or where you shoot, you'll have a short career!

Let people talk, long as they don't put their hands on you!

I appreciate your insight. I too, find this interesting. It's strange to reflect on something that I haven't reflected on since high school. Maybe I'm just out of practice.

Anyway, good to know I'm not the only one that feels "stupid" at times when there are onlookers (or, in your case, participants!). I'm glad to hear it's possible to get more used to it!

Also, I know realize why I prefer to take pictures in extremely secluded places.
