Getting Windows to show NEF (nikon RAW) formats..?

Does anyone know how to make the slideshow-function in Win XP compatible with RAW photos, e.g. Nikon's NEF format?

Even Photoshop Elements 5.0 doesn't support this format, it must be possible?!

I have found that only Nikon capture will show these types of files, or plugins for hotoshop, I have not heard of window picture viewer being able to view these types of files.
