Is there a reason Nikon doesn't use 100 as their base?

As someone said about the sensors already.
But really the biggest thing is there is no standard between companies.

Sure there is. There are many ISO standards, but in photography ISO refers to film/sensor speed, which is also an international standard. ISO 200 is twice as sensitive to light as ISO 100, regardless of manufacturer (probably with some minor mathematical differences). Other than that they are the same.

While those articles are interesting, they don't say anything on why Nikon uses ISO 200 and Canon uses ISO 100 as bases, despite both using CMOS sensors.

You're probably delving into proprietary information. I doubt you'll find a technical explanation as neither company wants to spill its secrets.

I'm just bothered why you were scolded by the other photographer.

I was thinking the same thing. With people like that I just smile and nod my head, then ignore everything they say. Some people are just rude. If I want advice I'll ask for it, thanks. Don't lecture me.

My big questions is, does 200 ASA equal 200 ISO or is the scale different?
