In my opinion, the $600 70-200 f/4L is the best budget telephoto lens. I wouldn't get anything cheaper than that.

Tokina 300mm f/2.8 FD mount: $650

Canon 400mm f/4.5 FD mount: $750

eBay

He would have to get an adapter for the FD mount. Frankly those are more of a hassle than not. Stick with an EF or EF-S mount for your T3i.

Really? The used sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and 70-210 f/2.8 are good for their price. I paid $325 for my signa 70-210mm mkII and sure it isnt as good as a canon f/2.8 but pretty good for the money!!! Ill post pics later

I don't like third party gear except the Sigma ultra-wides that Canon doesn't make.

I can't afford a $600 dollar lens.
I just need a decent lens...
The 75-300 is crap from what i read
I think i'll go for the EF-S 55-250

I bought a 55-250 from Amazon and sent it back within a week. Then bought a Tamron 70-300 VC (Model A005). It was 10 times the lens that the 55-250 was.

70-300 IS isn't a horrible lens. The
75-300 is the crap one. In my opinion :)
