Hey i recently got a new 50mm 1.8 lens and bonfire night is coming and i want to take some firework shots. Was just wondering what sort of settings you should use when taking them? I use a Nikon D80

Look on Flickr at the fireworks and look at the settings others used from similar locations. Manual setting on camera, focus manual to infinity. f8 and tripod. Adjust shutter to get the exposure you like.

One thing to consider while setting up your shooting position is the surrounding environment. Photos of the fireworks only, up in the sky, usually are quite boring because that's what most people will do. Add some interest with landscape elements, people, cityscape, etc. Reflections off water is a nice addition. Flickr has a bunch as Trever mentioned, but there are quite a few here on TPF. The Search function works well for this.

Your not throwing the fireworks in the bonfire are you?? LOL! Run like hell.
