Also known as Fruit Bats, these are large, with a huge wing span. Kind of cute. There is a colony in a wetlands about 20 mins from where I live in Victoria, Australia.

In the first pic, a mother tends to a juvenile in a tender moment. All images taken with Nikon D7100.

It is estimated there are up to 20,000 of these animals in the wetlands area that stretches quite around 3km.

Nice shots and very cools animals! My GF's daughter goes to Australia every year to rescue orphaned baby Fruit Bats.

Really? Where does she travel from? Does she join a group here in Australia to do that?
It's with a group, I think near Brisbane. I could be wrong about the city. It's a pretty well known rescue group, I'll ask her next time I see her.

She travels from the San Francisco Bay Area here in the USA.

Last time I was in Oz a fruit bat **** on my arm as I was walking down the street...... :grumpy:

Nice set. #1 is a terrific capture of that moment I think.

The bat was hanging in a large tree at the side of the road....
