Photos NOT OK to edit
Hi guys, I just bought a new 85mm 1.8 from B&H and there's a white speck behind the front element. I snapped a few pictures and I don't see it affecting the images, but I am concerned by how large and how easily the speck can be seen with the naked eye. I am aware that even new lenses will have some sort of dust inside, but would you say that this is normal? If it were your lens, would you exchange it or ignore it?

Lenses are not assembled in 'clean' rooms and the lens has other dust in it.
But that is a pretty good size piece and while it won't effect image quality most of the time it will be a source for lens flare if you have any bright light sources in the image frame.

I would return the lens for a replacement or send it to Nikon USA Service for a warranty cleaning.

I have a 20mm with a huge honkin' chunk of white something under the front element. I don't worry about it as it doesn't affect IQ, and neither should you.

Lenses are not assembled in a 'clean room' then hermetically sealed.
