HDR and excessive noise?

I got my hands on photomatix and have been trying and trying to push something through worth showing off..

Only problem is that EVERY time my pictures come out with significant amounts of noise in the darker areas.

What am I doing wrong? I generally do 5 exposures 1ev apart (-2, -1, 0, 1, 2).

Is there any advice on anything I can do to reduce the noise?

Are you actually taking 5 exposures? Or, are you trying to work with a RAW file and processing it multiple times? There are definitely limits to what can be done with a single RAW shot...
