Morning - New member, first post and open to C&C of this post, on any facet, including posting requirements - hope I have things right.

40 years ago, I ran 2K analog frames through a basic Pentax body (forget the name). It was a manual camera (loved that camera...) and the Canon T7 I'm using now is a far cry from that. I started to learn some basics and would like to pick it up again.

This shot is through a Canon EOS T7 body and the stock EFS 18-55mm that came with the kit. It is natural light, auto focus and a spontaneous shot. For me, it gave me a thrill to see it came out better than expected but I'd like to learn to plan shots like this. Everything from viewfinder vs screen for focusing, mode settings and how to use this body on full-manual... But I'm open to anything that's offered by anyone. And thanks for taking the time!

@mak9 All skill levels are welcome, however, the C&C gallery has some necessary requirements for posting. It's not a place for generalization. Please edit your post to include the camera settings and a specific question or concern you have on the image. If you would prefer I can move your post to a more appropriate thread with less restrictions.

Thanks!

Thanks for this. Was some confusion when initial post disappeared. The lens was set to auto focus, the body was set to Landscape. The shot was taken spontaneously so settings used were unchanged from previous shot.

Critiques needed are on technical (settings), technique (framing, distance and angle etc) and artistic (lighting, dof, composition etc). I discovered a scratch on the lens after the shot was downloaded and working on that. Specific questions are still difficult but could I have done this shot better with a different setting ie "Close Up", or on manual with particular settings for speed and aperture?

Is this in the direction you mean for "necessary requirements"?

Again, thanks for the help.

Better, but what was the aperture, shutter and ISO used? This is required information needed to provide valid responses to your questions. Generalized posts like "nice shot" and other nonrelevant posts are not allowed in the C&C. This is all covered in the sticky note at the the top of the gallery READ FIRST READ FIRST - Welcome to the C&C Gallery!

To be honest, I don't know what the aperture, ISO or speed were. If I can get the CR2 file open, does that file record those settings or maybe another way? Or best to just move the post and do better another time?

edit: Have Canon's Digital Photo Pro open and working on pulling the data. I'll post it later this morning. And thanks!

Not knowing your information is like walking into a blacked out room and being asked to say what's missing. It's my understanding Canon cameras automatically embed the EXIF data in both your jpeg and RAW images and there is no option to turn it off. If you convert a RAW file post to a JPEG or WEB format there is generally an option to include or strip the Metadata. If you have the Canon Digital software, you should be able to open the CR2 RAW file and view the Metadata. Here's a free online site that will also read Metadata on an image file View Metadata
