Hello from Baton Rouge!

I'm walt originally from New Orleans .....retired sales guy....and curious about what I think may be a camera....

My bud just closed his small auto repair shop, and found this item in a used car he bought 20+ years ago..He tried to contact the owner but never could....It sat in the back of a file cabinet since then....

I say "think it could be a camera" but neither he nor I seem to be able to get it open past what appears to be a....hmmmm? There are no makers marks anywhere on what appears to be a 8" x 5" x 1" thick stainless steel case with a leather cover....any thoughts as to what this might be?

Thanks very much Alex! With your help in identifying it, I was able to get it open..it appears in tact if a bit grungy. ......being a car guy, I understand the + and -'s of working with a 40 year old project. Not sure what next steps would be.......but thanks again!!!
