Hello from Maryland

Hello community.

Did some searching for an actual photography based forum. I've been going back and forth for years about wanting to try photography as a hobby, but never really committed. If I somehow were good at it, I might consider doing it part time. But, I don't have any equipment beyond my iPhone (I saw a guy in Iron Man 3 get a picture of a license plate from almost 30 feet away...awesome zoom). I have like a little Power Shot camera too that I recovered when the people I support at work were going to toss out.

So, I'm here to talk with people and get direction to see if I can do at least an ok job with photography. I've seen some pictures people have taken and often thought, "I think I'd like this pic better if...". So, I need to try and see if I can at least do ok.

As a hobby, it's great but it can be very time-consuming and costly.

As a job, it's damn chancy.
The world is full to the brim with people who've bought a camera with the hopes of making money.

If you know nothing, it's a long steep hill to get to the point where you can earn any bucks at it.

If you love taking pictures and it makes others happy, you have won already. If you ever make money doing it, that's extra fun!

Well, I'm not having hopes of making money specifically. If I do, awesome. If not, no biggie. Time consuming isn't too big of an issue as I'm getting married on Friday. LOL. Costly...could be an issue with the marriage thing.
