Hello from Wet Washington State

I'm probably the newest of the new. I've had simple Point-n-Click cameras for years but after playing a bit with my sister-in-law's Nikon D40 over the holidays and with some gentle nudging from my mother, I ordered a starter DSLR - a Canon Rebel XS. Got a great price I could afford and decided I'd rather start here and see what I think before sinking more money into a new hobby.

So right now, I have very little idea of what I'm doing. The camera should arrive in about 7-10 days. In the meantime, I'm soaking up examples and explanations like the proverbial sponge.
