Helluva traffic fine

I just found this insane!

HELSINKI - One of Finland’s richest men has been fined a record 170,000 euros ($217,000) for speeding through the centre of the capital, police said on Tuesday...

he was going 80k in a 50k zone. I got fined in the Auckland CDB for the same and it was $125. Here in NZ, we have a shortage of policeman and they basically earn there income by traffic fines! But the Finns have a different way of pinching you.

Basically, the Finns fine you according to your income level! I just find this just appalling. What do you think?

what's the problem with that?
if you earn £10,000 p.a. getting fined £125 for speeding will seriously dent your wallet and you would struggle financially for at least a couple of months, but if you earn £225,000 p.a. £125 would be almost pocket change...
I know if i was a millionaire, £125 would mean feck all to me in the whole scheme of things... it probably wouldn't stop me speeding if i was in a ruch..

Still, I can't believe I complained about my $120 speeding ticket (which will be deferred anyway when I take defense driving).
Me, the Flea
