I do portraiture mainly families. I currently have 2 kit lenses and the 50mm 1.4 ( stays on my camera and only use this one ) I'm looking to upgrade to a high quality portrait zoom. Which DA* series would you recommend and why? Are they really worth the money?

I don't know the Pentax line very well, but looks like they've got a 17-70 f/4.0. I don't see anything in a constant f/2.8, which would be my choice in Nikon or Canon. Personally, I think I'd stick with your 50mm, but if you really want the zoom, the 17-70 is the way I'd go.

Pentax has a great telephoto zoom lens, nicknamed "a bunch of primes" for it's image quality. The Pentax 50-135mm f/2.8. You should definetly check it out.
