Help With C&C

I took some photos at Bodega Bay in Northern California, I have a Nikon D3000 and I left the ISO on 400 instead of 100 for a fairly sunny day.
I set the camera on P and the shutter speed was I think about 1250 and the Apeture was about 5.6.
The rocks seem too dark and the sea seems too bright. Can you help me? Thanks.

Bit fast on the shutter speed? Not sure but I think you should be able to effectively stop the motion of the water with a slower shutter speed. Also definitely always start with ISO 100 and then move up if it becomes evident its necessary. I think you could have dropped the ISO down to 100 and the aperture to about f/11 and still have used a slower shutter speed, but then again I'm not experienced enough to make that kind of call without experimentation, so consider that as well.

Personally it's too bright for me, the highlights are blooming.

mrpink's edit is badass though.

I agree p!nk's edit is really good for what the original was! The original shot is way overexposed in the background, but underexposed on the rocks. Usually it's difficult to get both. I've heard ND filter's can help. Or you could expose for the water, then bring up the exposure on the rocks in PP?

levels auto, increase mids input, reduce whitepoint output, sharpen 0.2/0.29, burn surf, dodge rock shadow.

so what? turn on GEGL, use 16 bit color editing, no difference.

personally, no. and MrPink there is lots of weird turquoise color-bleed all over the place in your edit.
