Ok, so I thought that there could be some ideas floating around in a place like this. Can anyone help me think of a topic to write a speach on? Something fun or serious maybe. The audience is mostly 40-60 yrs of age. It's for a speach competition in two days and I am super stuck at the moment and can't think of anything!!!! Help anyone????

I should mention that it is 5-7mins. any topic. can be a story or call to action or information.

thx

Procrastination

Why you like photography or any hobble, go with something that does not require a lot rates

Well, gee, honey.... you tell us... what's near and dear to you? Something like a 5-7 minute speech sounds awfully intimidating when you don't have a subject at hand, I understand that, but - if you settle on something you KNOW about, or CARE about, then they'll probably have to drag you off the podium! :soapbox:

Talk about pollution or littering and why you believe jail terms for these environmental crimes should be imposed.

Talk about why photography can be a life-enriching art form.

Talk about the travesty of the Yankee's payroll.

Talk about the Tao of Pooh!!!

You'll get there, and you'll probably get an A! Don't sweat it - there are very few times in your life someone HAS to listen to you babble, and then applaud! :cheer: So run with it!

does it have to be original? ... perhaps you could recite a poem or tell a person story :D

How about todays low standards of spelling and grammar?

Wow! thanks so much guys. I didn't expect this much fedback.
Dew, you're a fountain of ideas, and yes it does have to be original; therein which lies the problem... I am a not sooo good writer.
MDowdey, I love it! unfortunately I don't think that would go over so well.

I will keep you posted on the outcomings of the next two days. who knows maybe I will win this competition with some last minute impromtu thingy....

im not a fabulous writer .. but i've done ok ... i used to be on the drama team in college (although my major was psycology and nutrition)

you may want to go with something not too serious .. but something that this crowd can relate too... you can talk about something very boring and have good presentation skills to "woo" the crowd .... they may enjoy something thought provoking with a little humor :D

I have been thinking of doing it on

The first kiss (talking about the experience plus mine maybe)

That Food is love

It's ok to cry (but that one might get a little depressing)

Circles, how are life revolves around circles. Integredy is based on a circle...

Or tell a story. I really want to tell one but I am not sure what to write a story about.

Those are my ideas so far... let me know what you think.

mmmm, although I like the idea of the first kiss, remember your audience is supposed to be made up of 40-60 year olds....the first kiss is a distant memory, and they may well be more interested in hearing about the first coronary...

I DO like your "food is love" idea - you could really expand on that, how the kitchen can be considered the heart/soul of the home, stepping inside from a long cold day to the welcoming smells of dinner or fresh brewed coffee or baked bread...that's nostalgia and we can all relate to that.

I think you're closing the gap here. :D Start noodling with the pen and paper (or word processor...whatever)

yer horrible, miss terri! No wonder ya like hanging in the graveyards all the time :p :p  (I love pickin on ya terri)

I personally think that the first kiss would be quite good, alot of people around that age want to rekindle their youth, and there is nothing like a memory of their first kiss to get them going down memory lane :)
