HELP!!!

Okay, now I can also guarantee that there duplicates, of the exact same name and exact same extension. This is when I view them through the camera on the computer, prior to copying the files to the computer. When I copy them to the computer, the duplicates get a (1) added after them, but are still JPEGS.

It sounds like there are no raw files. What size are the files? That might give us a clue.

When the camera is plugged into the USB and I view the files through Windows Explorer, they are all JPEGs, two of each, with the exact file name. And the files are low-quality JPEGs, about 875kb.

When I am viewing the files through the camera, each file is listed as RAW + Basic on the viewfinder.

I've tried it on a different computer, same thing. I haven't tried the card reader yet, as I don't have one, so I'll do that soon I hope. I tried that software, Pete, and it couldn't find my camera that was plugged into the USB. However, it COULD find my iPod, and when I switched USB ports, it could still only find the iPod and not the D50.

I don't know. It's looking more and more like a glitch where the camera recorded 2 JPEGS of every image as opposed to one RAW, one JPEG as it was supposed to. I've never heard of that though.

even though the camersa is telling you that it has RAW+JPG..but my feeling is that when 2 files of the same name appears on the card..the camera interpret that as being RAW+JPG...even though it is really JPG+JPG.........but this is really strange

I think you're gonna need the card reader. They're cheap... $12 should do it. Did you call for tech support? They we're very helpful for me the first time I used the software.

Keep us posted. I still think there's some hope.

your D50 acts as a card reader when you plug it into your PC....no need to get an extra card reader.....card reader and camera....they provide the same interface.....let your computer read the files on the memory card....they dont process the files...whatever you see by connecting your D50 to the PC....you'll get the same thing from a card reader.....either you see files....or you cant.....shouldnt have variation in terms of files size and hidden file

Alright. I should have some time to pick one up today. I'll try that and see, and if that doesn't work, I'll go the tech support route. Apparently I can send them my card and they'll try to de-corrupt it? For $75. Eep. But better than reshooting.

I'm also thinking of swinging by McBain Camera (local shop) and seeing if they might know what's up. Will keep everyone posted. Thanks for the help!

i would not pay the $75 as you are not sure if the RAWs were ever recorded......could be a waste of money

Well... that may be, BUT when I had a similar problem, it took a reader to solve my troubles. I can't explain it. I just worked.... instantly and easily.

I would certainly recommend a card reader...then you don't use your camera's battery while uploading, you don't tie up your camera while uploading...in case you need to be shooting...and what I think may be important...is that your camera is not tethered to something.

Lets say you are uploading the photos with the camera and USB cord...the camera is sitting on your desk. You or someone else catches on the cable...next thing you know...your $1500 camera is smashed onto the floor.

For less than $20...I'll take the card reader.

now that is when the card reader comes in handy......haha.......i usualy set up fence around my camera so that no body an trip it when i upload the photo.....but i do have a card reader that is dusting just right beside my computer.....lazy to pull the memory card out of the camera

i'm not certain how true my following message is --->>> maybe D80 is relatively new....the reading speed is pretty fast....if you look at the spec....it is using USB 2.0 high speed....max at 480Mbit/s.......so i never complain about the transfer speed from my camera to computer...also my SD card is 150x...but i guess it does make a difference for other cameras with slow transfer rate
