Hi all, not too sure what to write as I've just registered to this site.

I've been interested in photography for a number of years, but never really got into it seriously.
The 1st camera I purchased was about 25 years ago from a pawn shop. The camera was a Petri MF-2 35mm SLR with a couple of lenses.
Lenses: Petri CC Auto 1:1.8/50
: Sun Macro Zoom 85-210mm
Over the years I've taken some nice photos with this kit.

Recently for my 60th birthday my wife bought me a Canon 500d with standard Zoom EF-S 18-55mm lens.
The idea of digital photography, in one hand sounds easy, but seems a bit daunting. Also, I worry that my new found hobby could be rather expensive.
My 1st question to anyone out there how can assist me, is, can I purchase an adapter to fit my new Canon 500d and allow me to use the older screw attached lenses I already have?

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Geo,
I too am new to this site and nearly the same age.
Like you, I started out with an Olympus OM-1 35MM SLR back in 1975. Worked up to a Canon EOS 35MM SLR, with zoom and flash in the mid-1990s and converted to a Canon DSLR, with the same zoom you have, a 55-250 Canon zoom and Canon 430 Speedlight flash over the last 3 years. I tried using the lenses from my older Canon EOS 35MM SLR on my DSLR without any luck. Same for the old Canon flash, sorry to say!
I have found prices on eBay VERY affordable. I actually bought all of my current digital equipment, some filters and other accessories there very inexpensively.
I've recently purchased Adobe Photoshop CS5 (powerful digital darkroom software) on eBay, although it hasn't arrived yet. If you can't swing Photoshop, a GREAT ALTERNATIVE is Adobe Elements Premier (usually can be found for <$100 US). Elements Premier is a VERY GOOD editor for both digital still pictures + video. If you don't think you will ever need the video editor, just buy the basic Adobe Elements for about $60US.
Happy shooting.
Bill
