In a moment I am going to make my first post here trying to find advice on whether to pick up an ultrazoom or SLR for my first manual camera.

I'm 33/m and I sell beer for a living in Wichita KS

I'm interested in buying a nice camera with more manual control after buying a quality digital subcompact a few months ago. I am having a ball snapping pictures of whatever looks interesting. I have picked up a book or two and want to make this a hobby. I already enjoy hiking, travel, museums, etc. This should be a nice compliment to that.

Welcome to the forum. I also joined recently, decided to take up photogtaphy as a hobby, bought a canon EOS 400D and a zoom lense and all that's left to do is to climb the learning curve.
