High School basketball lens

I have a Canon 1D Mark II (1.3 crop factor) and want to add a lens to shoot high school basketball. Currently use the 70-200 2.8 IS and the 50mm 1.8, but find the 70-200 too long for the baseline shots and the 50mm is fast enough but find it too short unles I'm right under the basket and also find it a little soft. I'm thinking about the 24-70mm 2.8L? I was wondering if anyone uses this lens for high school basketball? Thanks.
