first slr i've ever owned, this thing is friggin incredible! i had no idea from the pictures of it that it would be this nice. got a 50mm f1.8 nikkor lense for it too (and a hitachi 2 gig microdrive).
i'm going to have a ball with this thing.

Another welcome to the club :D

I'm going to tell you what I tell everyone. Load a custom curve! It makes a world of difference if you are shooting in JPG.

very first shots with it:

Haha, you post on the relapse forums!

cool camera, I would do the back focus test if you have not all ready. from your shots it looks like you don't have the problem but better safe, with in the 30 day return policy then to find out in 33 days and have to have it fixed. I am on d70 number 2 just go it back yesterday. With my first d70 alot of my shots where not as sharp as I would thought they should have been so I did the test and found out that i had a bad camera. I called the shop I got it from and they gave me a new one no questions asked. I just wanted to give you a heads up but most d70 owners know about this already so if you do just skip this post. :)

Congratulations on having a very fine camera.....it's nearly as good as a Canon 10D!

sorry but what exactly is the back focus test?

Here are 2 sites that go into what it is and why you don't want it.
http://www.photo.net/learn/focustest/

http://www.leongoodman.com/d70focus.html

There is also a ton on info on the http://www.dpreview.com

I am not trying to scare you at all but I am glad someone told me about it and I was able to get a new camera. I Would not want you miss out on getting a new camera if you have the problem. Also it is dose not happen that much, the guy I talked to told me that my camera was only the 2nd he has seen come back.
