hot shoe flash

hi, looking to buy my first flash and am wondering what to get. I have a canon t3i. i shoot both indoors and out. Any suggestions? Is it worthwhile going high-end? thx.

Shooting outdoors often requires more power, so it may be worth it to get the 580EX or the 600EXRT. But depending on your circumstances, the 430EX may be enough and will save you a lot of money.

When I decided I needed more flash than my point-and-shoot (at the time) could put out, my thinking was I can always dial-down the flash power if I have to. ETTL also does this automatically. For those once-in-a-while times I need a lot of flash power, having it available can make the shot feasible.

So I went with a 550EX about 8-9 years ago, and upgraded to a 580EX II in December. Yes, they're pricey. However, there's nothing wrong with finding a good used one on ebay or wherever and saving some hard-earned $$$.
