Photos NOT OK to edit
A friend of mine is genuinely interested in sharpening his photographic skills. My suggestion to him has been get yourself a book, or books, then shoot, shoot, shoot.

Here's where we need some help.

He's looking for a how-to book that is written for the digital photographer. He doesn't need some Digital for Dummies, but he also doesn't need a technical manual either.

I have a shelf full of books, but all are geared towards film. My all time favorite is The Amateur Photographer's Handbook, still available, and probably still relevant in all of its principles. The problem is that it's not only film-oriented, it's also B&W-oriented, since most amateurs shot B&W exclusively when the book was written.

I know there's a ton of info available on-line, and he is completely internet savvy, but I think he wants something he can sit and read and hold in his hands.

Any thoughts, suggestions? All help welcome.

I have hundreds of books....and two of my favorites for digital are

The moment it clicks by Joe McNally

Imagine yourself getting the most from your DSLR by James Karney

Cheers, joe

The Bryan Peterson books are great. Understanding Exposure and Learning to See Creatively are two I would recommend.
