Just couldn't figure out how:er: would this be some sort of vintage effect?

The pale effect seems really nice, but how is it done? doesn't look like simple desaturation

the highlights generally look warm, but I have no idea whether they're a result of color balance or were the photos warm to start with.

As suspected, the EXIF shows that the flash was not used, so Greg is shooting with available light. The combination of low incandescent light and candles are going to give a warm cast to the images.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this "look" in my photos that were shot in crappy high school gym lighting.. or in under some of our fluorescent lamps in my house.

 :lmao:

Thanks, but does anyone know what was done in post to give it this tone?

In image editing there are usually several ways to produce an identical result.

So, No. No one can say specifically what post processing was done to produce those images.

It can be done with a Curves adjustment. It can be done with a B&W adjustment layer. It can be done with a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. It can be done with a combination of all three. Thre are likely 3 or 4 addtional ways others accomplish the same look.

The key is - the images have a global yellow color cast.

To me if I have to guess w/o looking at them in PS it seems as if there is a lack of contrast and some cross processing done on them.

Also, the process will change depending on the lighting conditions of the original scene.

They aren't all done the same way, but they all
involve some cross processing. This is a typical
way, which adds yellow to the highlights and
blue to the shadows:
