How do I fix my canon 18-55 lens?

I'd say go buy another one, honestly, it isn't worth trying to fix. As others have said, it's a very disposable lens. So disposable in fact that I've had a total of 3 given to me by photographers that have bought them as a kit and not wanted them.

Actually... being that the 18-55 is a kit lens and not particularly low focal ratio (it's a variable ratio lens), and compromises in a few other areas because the whole point of that lens is to keep the cost low... I might just take this opportunity to evaluate what else I might be able to use to cover the same range, but with better performance.

For example:

  • Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
  • Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM
  • Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM
  • Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II
  • Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II VC

There just few examples of lenses that are designed to cover approximately the same focal length range as the kit lens... but with better focal ratios.
