As the title states, what method and on what medium do you mount your fiber based papers?

Just printed a batch.

Sadly, I don't have close access to a dry mount press.

I dry mount mine, however, if you don't have a drymount press trying hinging or tip in

When I was a kid I used my mothers steam iron to tissue mount my pics. Be sure to dry the matt board n print by pre ironing em before mounting or you will get bubbles. You need to heat the iron to 225°F, about the cotton setting. Put another matt board over the picture so it doesn't get marred by the iron.

Otherwise buy a press, it really makes mounting a pleasure... your mom will make you do all the laundy if use her iron again.

I have never mounted FB, but a product called Studiotac does a fine job with RC. Bet it would work with FB also if you were careful. It has a slight bit of open time, so you have a few moments if you want to reposition. It's also archival. Not cheap, but far cheaper than professional mounting.

If you flatten it between the pages of some heavy book with some more books on top of it for a week or so, then corners or rice-paper (if you want to go all museum-archive style) will do the trick. Otherwise most of them curl too much and lift the top mat. Dry mount is the best and I have heard of it being done VERY CAREFULLY through a cloth with an iron.

you can also use Kraft paper and an iron, but not for very big prints as it is hard to keep the pressure even.

rice paper is for hinging, archival corners for tipping in

I was taught that dry mounting was the worst way to handle prints when conservation minded.

Paper is in need of breathing space ie it expands and contracts and it cannot do that if dry mounted. It might be alright with RC paper since it is plastic, lol. Not sure. It was a long time ago and once I got into the habit of two little pieces of acid free tape to attach the print to the back half of my mats, that has been my only method.

Of course, the mat needs to be acid free also.

I usually used a dry mount press (when I attended Brooks) now I use, spray mount or even more often double stick tape.
