how to get good images?

i've tried many setting with my nikon d40 and 18-55/55-200vr lens to get those kind of images but i cant. i also tried the HDR. is it the camera/lens or shooting skill?

Maybe a little bit of both...but mostly, I'd say it post processing skill.

One and two are HDR, realize though creating a god hdr image does not simply entail using Photomatix, you'll need to take the image fromPhotomatix and bring it to PS for furtherprocessing. shadow/highlight adjustment, USM?Smart sharpen,overlays with highpass filters, curves, levels, soft light blending, blurring and more are used to creat most hdr images you see, some may use more of these adjustments some less but none are straight out of Photomatix.

Number three looks to be a weel exposed photo with a little post processing
