how to shoot snow?

i was wondering how you shoot snow and snow covered things such as trees.
i live in alaska so this is prety important for here.

I usually aim for a nice soft spot. That way the bullet make a big splash.

Actually besides searching this site, Outdoor Photographer mag had a good article in this month's issue.
