How to use a speedlite?

Hey folks,

Can anyone point me to a website or book on how to properly use a mounted flash, like a canon speedlite? Wanna buy one soon, after using my friend's speedlite last nite. It had a diffuser and he instructed me to just bounce it off the ceiling, and my pics come out pretty sweet, a lot better than the flip-up flash. I gotta get one! Thanks!
