i thought large format produced square ratios

came across this site using stumble on firefox.

i know that medium format produces square images such as 6x6 and i thought large format was the same. am i wrong or have these just been cropped?

There are 4x5", 5x7", and 8x10" LF cameras.

Also, not all MF is 6x6. There is 6x4.5, and 6x7, which are not square.

Don't forget 6x9! Although that's pretty rare I think.

I've never heard of a square large format camera but that doesn't mean much. The thing with large format is it's easier to crop.

errm... nope. LF generally uses approx. the same standard sizes as prints, that is 4x5, 5x7, 8x10, and so on. The only square format I know of is 6x6cm MF.

Don't forget 4x10 and 6x10 in LF for pans
