Hey Guys,

I am going to Oahu tomorrow for 3 weeks. I wanna shoot some waterfalls :)

So after reading some tutorials I found on google, I ended up buying a Polarizer and a ND2 filter, as the polarizer is supposed to cut down on reflections, and the ND2 filter will help compensate for the long exposure time by cutting down on the light coming in.

Do you have any tips for me on shooting waterfalls, and using a polarizer? I'm going for that cotton candy effect you see in so many famous pics.

Use a remote shutter release, or put the camera in self-timer mode before you hit the shutter. That way any shake from your actions will die out before the shutter opens.

You can stack the CPL on the ND for an extra 1-1/2 stops.

Bracket your shots.

Shoot RAW.

1/5 - 1/20 is a nice shutter speed, this shows a lot of motion and flow direction, but doesn't fade out all the detail. unless you want the silky smooth look, then decrease the speed as far as you want. 1/5 to 1/20 aslo is reasonable for hand held. not easy easy, but reasonable if you're steady.
