I will be spending a few days with family over Christmas and I am looking for some inspiration and ideas. We spend every Christmas in the forest in Northern Saskatchewan and much of the time is spent on the ice. Here is one shot from a year ago a few on my Flickr page. Can you give some suggestions? I don't want to take the same shots again. $20111227-IMG_0650.jpg

Dial in + exposure compensation. The camera meter is seeing all that white and and telling the camera to underexpose.

That's why your snow looks grey and the subject looks underexposed.

In ice fishing, so much anticipation is focused on the hole, see if you can work that in. Also, if you have a few people grouped around a few holes, get a group show where each person mirrors the other. It looks like you have the lake mostly to yourself (I'm used to the shanty towns on Minnesota lakes). Back out, shoot wider, and get a feel for the bigness/smallness.

Those are my ideas.
