My Nikon D40X DSLR has some options to optimize the image.

-Normal
-Softer
-Vivid

I usually shot in RAW. What image optimization do you use? Which one do you recommend? Thanks!

RAW has its own advantages.
So... Is "normal optimization" the best choice for RAW?

RAW is unprocessed. As KmH pointed out, that setting will only apply if you are shooting jpegs. To see what he means, shoot a RAW picture of the same scene using each of the image optimization settings. Leave all other exposure settings the same and see if you can spot a difference. You'll actually have to import them, because the thumbnails will look different on the camera display.

Adjustments like Normal, Vivid, Softer, Contrast, Color, Saturation, Black and White, etc., don't get applied if you shoot RAW only if you shoot JPG.

By all means keep shooting RAW and apply any, all, or none of the above settings in PP, don't let the $.50 computer in your camera apply these unchangeable settings for you by shooting JPG.
