In Las Vegas with out a camera. HA!

Hello all,
I don't know much about cameras but I am planning on buying one. Looking to spend about $300 on a new dslr camera. So with that being said, I'm kidding. My budget is about $1800 tops. That would make the Canon 7D or Nikon D300s camera kits my choices. Not really sure which I should get. Can you guys tell me where I can good deal on these cameras?

I never took photos with a dslr before. All the cameras I have ever used was a Sony point and shoot and my cell phones. I don't plan on being a professional just personal use. I like to take photos of hiking trips, camping, zoos, and vacation. So advices on lenses and stuff would be great too.

Not sure about the Canon but for $1700 you will pretty much be too broke to buy a lens for the D300s which run about $1600 for body only. I'd look on Amazon or B&H Camera for a good deal.

You might look into the D7000 which is considerably less expensive and in some respects better (higher pixle count, HD video)

for $1800, You might be able to pull off or at least come close to D300s with 17-50 Tamron lens. Add few more hundred to your budget and go with Nikon 24-85 glass.
