In the mountains. Critique please.

I went into the mountains today and snapped quite a few pics. Here's a random sampling What do you thinK?

3 is gonna do it for me. 1 and 2, sky is blown out. From 3 down are ok.

welcome to the boards though, get used to a lot of looking and no comments. You are not the only one to feel that way.

these are all pretty good shots, just the 1 and 2 have a blown out sky

but the one that wins me is 6, i like the continuous mountains covered in snow and trees
looks awesome =P

my advice is to wait until sunset to take these kind of shots, and aim at mountains from high up, as with 6, as often as you can
it adds a more interesting picture with more vivid colors and the sky would actually add to the picture, instead of taking away from it

were u using a DSLR and what kind?
also were u using a tripod?

I'm using a Canon Rebel XT. Defalut lens. No tripod, on alot of the shots, as we were on a small narrow winding road for the last half of the pictures and had to get out take pictures, and then get back in.

I plan on trying to get some danw/sunset pictures, but I have to have some good timing and weather to get up there.

5 and six were the hardest ones for me to get as the sun was directly over the mountains and blowing out the sky. I had to take the exposure down in PP on 5 in order to even get the mountains in the background to show up with some clouds above it.

ok so yea 3 is just amazing. I agree with the other posts about the sky being way too blown out, I would also like to see some more color, a bluer sky, in some of the other ones that have less of it. The ones of the boards/bridges are good but they're taken at a bad time. You can see that they are lighted up by the sun and I think they would look much better in b&w or during a haze/gloomy weather. But overall nice shots, beautiful area! I would love to hike there!

Oops, I meant to say 4 is amazing, I really like it. 3 is by far your best landscape shot out of this group, even though I would like to see more snow but it is very nicely situated.

try a polarizing filter for these kind of shots

it will help with the sky as well as adding deep, rich color to the picture
does wonders for landscapes =P
