Is it really that hard to become and be a pro photographer?

For over 30 years, my only source of income was from photography. First as a photojournalist, then as an architectural photographer for many years, and then back to PJ work. It is a tough way to make a good living. I never intentionally wanted to make a living with a camera- it just sort of happened that way. Looking back now, I would not have done it. It was fun and sometimes exciting, but it was hard to make really good money in the photographic areas I chose.

My advice? If you dream the dream, then by all means, try to live it. You are young. If you find that it is not for you, then nothing is lost. There is absolutely nothing wrong with dreaming. It is meant for the young. Good luck.

Summary: you have to be a highly motivated individual. What you put into it is what you will get out of it. It HAS to be your passion. It HAS to be your life. Anything short of that is unacceptable.

Well said. There are many sacrifices along this path.
