Is the Nikon D5300 a good choice

I'm not professional or anything and i only have a budget of 580$ so I decided to buy the Nikon D5300 Body Only. Is this a good choice or is there something better?

The D5300 is a very nice camera for the money. Has a 39 pt auto focus system derived from the D7000. The rest of the feature set is set at the affordable entry-level price.

That's a good price for just the body.
Althought I've seen them just recently on eBay for $360 USD body only.
Refurbished for $399 USD (Cameta Camera US) body only.

The D5300 has a Sony Exmor IMX193 image sensor in it.
Sony Exmor sensors in general are quite good. Particularly when you need to use a high ISO setting.

Nikon also uses the Exmor IMX 193 in the D3300, D5500, and D7200

Have you already purchased, or just decided? I have the D5100...it's still a really nice camera. I think you'll be happy with the D5300.
I think the D5300 is a better than the D3400. I really like the articulating LCD. It comes in handy on occasion.

The D3400 has Nikon's Multi-CAM 1000 auto focus module in it.
The D5300 uses Nikon's more capable Multi-CAM 4800DX auto focus module.

Another significant difference is the light metering sensor in each.
The D3400 uses Nikon's 420 pixel sensor, while the D5300 uses Nikon's 2016 pixel sensor.

I looked at the comparison linked to in the above post and spewed coffee all over my computer display from laughing when I saw the image sensor comparison info.

Both Nikon D5300 and Nikon D3400 have 24.0 MP resolution sensors but Nikon D5300's sensor is APS-C (23.5 x 15.6 mm ) and Nikon D3400's sensor is APS-C (23.5 x 15.6 mm ).

Since Nikon D3400's has a larger sensor area with the same resolution, this means that it also has a larger pixel area hence better light collecting capacity for a given aperture compared to Nikon D5300.

Both cameras use the same size image sensor. I'm pretty sure both cameras use the same Sony IMX 193 image sensor.

A camera is of no more use than a paperweight without a lens. Do you have a compatible lens to use it with, or plan to buy one along with the camera? If not, it makes no sense to buy it body-only. Get the basic kit that Nikon offers.

My standard tipp for newbies is D7100 with Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC, but obviously thats far out of your budget.

Why would he want a D3400 as long as he can have the D5300 ?!?!? Its a far superior camera.

Heck the D3400 doesnt even have sensor cleaning. Which means even the friggin D3300 is a more practical camera than the D3400.

Err, yes, definitely. Better autofocus, better metering, fully articulated flipscreen, and 14 bit sensor data processing.
