Hello,

I am traveling to French Polynesia and recently bought a Nikon D40x. Body only. It was suggested to me that I should buy an 18/200 lens as an all purpose lens, to be able to get relatively close and relatively far shots.

Would this be a good lens to get? And if so are there any recommendations on type/brand/speed? for around $500 give or take.

Thanks,
Keith

18-200 is around $750 new If its you first lense its a perfect start later you can buy better lenses of those focal lengths. Here is a sample photo taken with my D200 with a 18-200 VR lense.

That is really an amazing shot. You have me convinced I am getting a 18/200 lens now.
The clarity of the mountains behind the jet, and the clarity of the jet. This will come in
handy when taking pictures of people with islands in the background.

Thanks
Keith
