to me it does look like you are focusing on something other than what you want to focus on. i set my auto focus to single point instead of letting the camera choose which point to focus on. you shutter speed looks like it might be too slow, and you might want to shoot at a smaller aperture ( larger f/ number ) which might help some more of the photo to be in focus.
the photo of the guy with the kid on his lap, looks like the camera was focused on his knee and not on his face and if your shooting at a wide aperture since his knee was sticking out further than he was, things behind or in front of what is focused on will not always be in focus.
