What's new

I've hit a bit of a wall...

are you city or country?
makes little difference - chances are there are some around - so how about trying to catch fox photos -- at night!
now there is a challenge :)

I spent an hour or two doing that last night (a pair eat off my mom's porch every night) Sadly they didn't come last night and no matter what the lighting sucks.

I know the feeling, I live in a hole of a city and I dun shot everything twice over on so many occations I can't count them all.

The moral of the story here, is there is always something, Shift your perspective a little bit for a little wile and you will find something you never noticed.

One idea... SQUIRRELS!!!! I swear you could never get bored shooting them and they're EVERYWHERE!!!!

I love some of the buildings downtown, but it would not be the best place for a 20 yr old girl to be walking around, and most of my friends aren't interested in photography at all for them to even go w/ me :(
You can't tell us there aren't any men around who wouldn't mind going with you on a photo shoot in the city .

lol well im sure my bf would but he lives 10 hrs away, and my bff is a guy but he thinks its stupid lol and all he would do is complain the whole time (typical guy lol)

I remember looking through a book where the photographer had pictures of everyday things that looked amazing. He even had shots in a garbage bin, and one of power lines that were both beautiful images.
That book gave me a kick and made me realize you do not have to live or travel to exotic locations to get amazing pictures. They are all around you - you just see them too often to notice!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!!!! Hopefully this wke i will be able to go out and get some shots.

Ok so...I have come to a bit of a stand-still w/ my photography. I love nature and think that it is the most beautiful to photograph, but i have pretty much already shot everything possible around here (which isn't much anyway, cause i dont live in a very pretty part of the county) So if anyone has any ideas/new challenges for me that would be wonderful!!!! THANKS!! :sexywink:

buy a macro lens.

I really appreciate your comment and i dont mean this in a rude way, but you are you gunna give me the $200+ to get one? I am a broke college student, and food and gas have to come first lol I really don't have the money to buy anything right now to purchase anything new...but great idea for the future!!

Well i live in a town in the TX panhandle, so the actual countyside isn't very pretty just flat and dead lol, I love some of the buildings downtown, but it would not be the best place for a 20 yr old girl to be walking around, and most of my friends aren't interested in photography at all for them to even go w/ me :(

I would love to be able to travel but that isn't really an option for me, i am a full time student with a full time job :( But thanks everyone for your comments/ideas so far!!!

I'm having a terrible time making sense of that sentence.

You say you've hit a "wall." What were you doing with your photography previously?

No seriously, abraxas may have a small point... stop looking at why you cannot, and look at things why and what you CAN do. :)

I work 14 hours a day *minimum*, 7 days a week, am in a serious relationship, have friends, am a member of a kickboxing club, , jiu-jitsu club and starting tonight Tai-Chi and still find time to photograph. Know what? I may not do it for hours everyday, but I do a minimum of 4-6 hours a week dedicated JUST to photography, even when I am stumped, its never for very long... use your imagination! :D

I see someone who is "stumped" as someone who has hit a wall and doesn't want to break through it. Use it as a way to take a break from photography or use it as a way to push yourself to the next level. Whenever I fall into ruts, I get excited... becuase I *KNOW* some serious new changes and challenges are coming, becuase I make them happen!! The words "can't" "won't" or "do not know how" do NOT exist.

Want a little challenge? Find a piece of wood, like a small 4 X 4 inch square, make a hole in it... place a PEN in it... now, do what it takes to IMPRESS yourself. Take pictures of NOTHING but that pen for 3 days... in different places angles, indoors and outdoors, in different light conditions. In 3 days I bet you will have learned more about photography and lighting than you realized. Now take that knowledge and apply it to LANDSCAPES, and then maybe ANIMALS and later, PEOPLE. ;) I just gave you enough material for 6 months!

Good luck!

the funny thing is some of the images that I have been least proud of have done the best commercially. I dont know how to cure your boredom, but the good thing about even the most boring place in the world is that it is constantly changing. New seasons, scenery, storms, insects, people...

Dear Empress:

I understand that this is going to be different for everybody, but I mostly do street portraits (it's very addictive). But to mix things up a bit, I started a project that I call "Sunday Mornings with Holga." That's when I photograph subjects other than people. Using a 120 Holga (cost $21) is a great way to get a whole new look on any subject (a pinhole camera works well here, too). Other than that, I recommend getting involved photographing people. They are endlessly fascinating. And the results can be thrilling. What's more, you have a ready supply of them at your school.
