We recently stopped in Jasper overnight on our way to visit some friends in Northern Alberta. I had rented a Canon 70-300mm L lens for the trip but, sadly it rained most of the time and I wasn't able to use it as much as I would have like.

I was very impresssed with the almost instantaneous speed of the auto focus, the sharpness and color of the lens though. I'll be looking for a deal on one to pick up for myself in the near future!

Here are a couple samples of shots I was able to get. Please critique away

I like them both. Nicely captured.
I prefer #1 I think. I like the effect of the grass in the foreground.

Both are lovely. I actually prefer the second one myself. I am a fan of photos where you can see reflections in the eyes of an animal.

I love Jasper -- Maligne Lake is just breathtaking.

I think you could improve the squirrel photo with some editing. The white balance is a little off toward blue and if you burn down the rocks you can re-adjust the contrast up a little -- like so.
