Just another lens question.

I have 2 questions that im stuck on and cant really firgure it out.

1) What would be a good lens for shooting in low light/night settings. Camera is a Sony alpha a300

2) The new lens i just bought is a Tamron 70-300mm with macro. When i set it to macro it has to be between 200-300 zoom, and i cant seem to get it to focus on a object close up, and i cant get that clear up close detailed picture. Any ideas why?

Fixed focal length lenses are fast (have wide apertures).

Minimum Focus Distance 59in.(1.5m) in normal setting/ 37.4" (0.95m) in macro mode (f=180mm-300mm range)
The Tamron lens has a minimum focus distance of 37.4" in macro mode ... are you trying to get closer than that ?

probably, because when i back up futher it gets in focus. So that makes some sense lol. Thanks.
