This post is really about action.

Watching episodes of DS9 on disk, the episode where Jake Sisko is old and is telling his story to the young lady came up.

During the episode I once again realized that life passes by and if you don't take action, life will pass you by.

This is about advise to the younger kids out there.

Those starting out in photography, take chances, move forward and do whatever the hell you want.
Live life and enjoy it and don't let ANYONE tell you that you cant do...."x".....

If someone tells you that you cannot take pictures with film AND digital, prove them wrong.

Someone tells you that you cant make a 3d image with sound and motion, prove them wrong!

Dont look back and push through!

If you can’t get out and about be creative in doors. Eg even if it’s proving that the CSI team taking photos with UV is not as easy as they make out. Push the limits of both the equipment and your imagination with digital you can always delete ant try again.

Keep shooting,no matter what. Shoot photos of whatever your life is like, at every stage of your life. Someday in the future you will be glad you took photos
of your crappy first apartmen, or the old car that you hated. As we age, memories and reminders of the past become more important. By the same token, deleting bad photos is in some ways one of the worst parts of digital photography. Often times in the future even a bad image becomes a fond reminder.

    This.
It is the memory that the picture bring back, not the IQ of the image.

The problem as I see it is, retention.
HOW will the kids of today, think for the future and SAVE these priceless photos.
Will what they shoot with their camera phone disappear in a couple years when they replace their phone?
At least in the film days, there was a chance that the negatives would be stuck in a drawer, to be found a couple decades later. With digital, retention has to be an action.

WE are aware of this problem, the average person is not.
They also think the cloud is PERMANENT storage.
I read MANY posts where people were complaining that all their email history disappeared, when their ISP shut down.

    I agree with ac12
Society as a whole takes far more photos now than ever before but prints less than ever.

I have photos and negatives going back 30 plus years, plus those from my childhood taken by my parents. My kids never seem to save anything, including photos. I still have ribbons from 4H. I found my kids ribbons in the garbage 6 months after the fair!

With my Moms help the kids have written and photo memories for their 1st 15 years. But I’m not sure they will care about them? I do need to catch up on photo albums and get some of their photos off of their phones. Not enough time!
