Well, I recently picked up a few of these books; I'm sure some of you have heard of them. I don't have them nearby but there are about five of them including off the top of my head:

Capturing the Drama of Daily Life
Working w/ Color
B&W (forget the title but basically the same idea as Working w/ Color)
Photographing Architecture and Cityscapes
Taking Photos of Family and Friends

To say these books are "beginner" is a fair statement, but they're not 20-chapter novels and anybody could go through them all during a sleepy Sunday afternoon, so I'd say they're worth a read. It wasn't really anything I had never thought of as far as technical aspects go, but these books seem to have some nice tips and things I *hadn't* thought of as far as composition, esp. in the "Daily Life" book. They were a thrift store find so why not.
