i have a nikon d70s and want a cheap 2x teleconverter to use temporaraly with my 18-80 lense i found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&item=130014771566&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 does anyone know if autofocus will still work?
What is the maximum aperture of your lens? Auto focus on most cameras needs about F5.6 or wider for auto focus to work. A 2X teleconverter will steal about two stops of light. So if your maximum aperture is F4, then auto focus probably will not work, at least not in all situations.
I'd be more concerned with the loss of image quality than I would the autofocus .... a 2x really degrades the image, and the "cheaper" the 2x the uglier the image. If you're going to use a TC at all, I think I'd stick with a 1.4x ... it will keep your autofocus (with a 1 stop loss) and the image won't be degraded as badly.
