Landscape Lens

I know I've been asking alot of lens questions but I'm still unsure of what will be best for me.
I've been looking through some lenses and I'm still not sure what would be the best landscape lens for me. I don't know if I should get a Wide Angle, Ultra Wide Zoom, or even a Telephoto. (Using Canon's Discriptions of lenses)

I like the effect of the EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye but I don't know how that will do on the type of landscapes I take.

I'm looking for something around or under $1000.
Camera: Canon EOS Elan 7ne
Current Lens (only): 28-105mm it came with.

Wow, nice shots.

Only you can really know which lens is best for you. I like wide angle lenses for landscape because sometimes you just want to capture as much of the scene as possible. A fish-eye would do that...but you end up with distortion. I think a good quality wide zoom would be the best for this type of thing.

I've always heard great things about the 17-40mm F4 L. Being an 'L' series lens, it's built very well and optically very sharp. You don't need a fast (wide aperture) lens for landscape photography because... a)you should use a tripod.... b)you usually want to maximize your DOF with a smaller aperture.

Another consideration is weight. If you do a lot of hiking to get your shots, you may not want to lug around a big heavy lens. It would be wise to visit a camera shop and try some lenses on your camera to see how they feel in your hands & how heavy they are.

If by any chance should you think you need a wider aperture, you could consider the 16-35 f2.8 L. But its slightly over your 1K budget.
