Have been using 5100k bulbs through an umbrella till now. Someone mentioned for babies I should change my color temp. What temp does everyone suggest for infants? Also do you prefer continuous or flash?

Thanks for the help! Starting a new thread for the detailed questions.

99.9% of the time I prefer strobes/flash over continuous. With respect to the temperature question, why do you want to change temperature? Is there something about the WB that you're getting that you're not happy with?

+1 - strobes over continuous. http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/white-balance.htm

To be effective continuous has to be so much brighter and most of a continuous lights power isn't even used if shutter speeds are faster than 1/2 second.
Plus continuous light is ambient light, so the advantage of controlling strobed light exposure separately from ambient light exposure is not available.

At any event, one can use a gray card, make the images as Raw files, and then set color temperature accurately post process.

Exactly what I was looking for!

Any suggestions on affordable strobes?(beginner use)

Right now when not using continuous I use a sb600 off camera with an umbrella.

Have started another thread regarding equip choices.
